The B.C. government has announced that it is pausing the planned expansion of Provincial Sales Tax (PST) to professional services, which had been scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2026.
The pause applies to several professional service categories, including accounting and bookkeeping services.
This means that, for now, the existing PST exemption for accounting and bookkeeping services will remain in place, and the previously announced October 1, 2026 change will not proceed as scheduled.
The Province has indicated that the pause is intended to provide additional flexibility for businesses and local governments during a period of ongoing economic and trade uncertainty. The change is expected to be implemented through a temporary regulation.
For businesses that were preparing for the upcoming PST changes, no action is required at this time regarding charging PST on accounting, engineering and other professional services.
We will continue to monitor further guidance from the B.C. Ministry of Finance and provide updates as additional information becomes available.
